How Does Installation and Setup Work in OFNL Areas? Do I Need An Engineer Or Not?π οΈπ
Welcome to OFNL! If you're new to our service, this guide will walk you through the installation and setup process, ensuring youβre connected with ease.
The OFNL Advantage π
Unlike Openreach, where about 25% of customers need an engineer visit to activate the line, OFNL works on a βready when you areβ approach, making the setup process as smooth as possible.
Step 1: Ready in Advance β³
When your property is being built, the developer schedules with OFNL to lay the full fibre cables throughout the estate, right up to your new home. This ensures everything is in place before you even move in. ποΈ
Step 2: Connect the ONT (Optical Network Terminal) / Modem π
Before your property is ready for you, OFNL installs a white box called an ONT on your wall. This Optical Network Terminal is where the Fibre Optic line connects, bringing the internet into your home. You'll usually find this box in a small plastic enclosure under the stairs or in a cupboard where your meters and boilers are located.
Step 3: Ready When You Are πͺ
Once OFNL has done all the prep work, your home is ready to go. The line is connected, and the ONT is ready to be turned on. All you need to do is order your full fibre connection and in as little as one day, your services can be activated remotely. No need to wait around for engineers; just activate the fibre line, plug your router into the modem, and youβre online! π
