What router will I receive with my Home Unity broadband?
Your included router depends on your broadband speed. You can also upgrade to one of our higher-specification Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7 routers.
Which router is included with my package?
The router we provide depends on the speed of your Home Unity broadband package.
| Your broadband speed | Router included | Router models |
|---|---|---|
| Below 300Mbps | Standard Wi-Fi 5 router | TP-Link VR1210 or Zyxel VMG8623 |
| 300Mbps or faster | Standard Wi-Fi 6 router | TP-Link VX230, TP-Link EX230 or Zyxel DX3301 |
You do not need to choose between the TP-Link and Zyxel models. We will provide a suitable router for your broadband package.
📝 Note: The exact router model you receive depends on stock availability. We may provide a different model with similar specifications if one of the models listed above is unavailable.
What is the difference between Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7?
Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 are different generations of Wi-Fi technology. Newer generations can support higher wireless speeds and have features designed to handle more connected devices.
The speed you actually receive over Wi-Fi will still depend on your device, where you are in your home, interference from other Wi-Fi networks and other factors.
💡 Tip: You do not necessarily need the newest Wi-Fi technology to get a good connection. Your included router is selected to suit the speed of your broadband package.
Can I upgrade my router?
Yes. We offer two optional router upgrades if you want newer Wi-Fi technology or a higher-specification router.
Ultrafast Wi-Fi 6 router
Our Ultrafast Wi-Fi 6 router costs £2 per month.
You'll receive a TP-Link EX520v, which uses Wi-Fi 6 technology.
This can be a good option if you have lots of connected devices or want to take advantage of faster Wi-Fi 6 capabilities with compatible devices.
Gigafast Wi-Fi 7 router
Our Gigafast Wi-Fi 7 router costs £4 per month, plus a £20 one-off charge.
You'll receive a TP-Link EB200v Pro, which uses the newer Wi-Fi 7 standard.
Wi-Fi 7 is designed for the latest compatible phones, laptops and other devices, particularly where very high wireless performance is important.
📝 Note: Your device must support the relevant Wi-Fi technology to take advantage of its features. For example, a Wi-Fi 5 device will not become a Wi-Fi 7 device simply because it is connected to a Wi-Fi 7 router.
Will upgrading my router increase my broadband speed?
Upgrading your router does not change the broadband speed of your Home Unity package.
Think of your broadband connection as the internet coming into your router and Wi-Fi as the connection going from your router to your devices.
A higher-specification router can improve the wireless connection between compatible devices and your router, but it cannot provide more broadband bandwidth than your package includes.
⚠️ Caution:Wi-Fi speeds are affected by your device, distance from the router, walls, interference and other devices using your connection. You should not expect every device to achieve the maximum theoretical Wi-Fi speed supported by a router.
Do I own my Home Unity router?
No. All routers supplied by Home Unity, including upgraded routers, are provided on loan for the duration of your contract.
This means the router remains the property of Home Unity and may need to be returned when your service ends.
🚨 Warning: Please do not dispose of your Home Unity router when you cancel or move your service. If it needs to be returned, we'll let you know how to send it back.
Which router should I choose?
For most customers, the router included with your package is all you need.
If you have lots of connected devices, use newer Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7 devices, or want higher wireless performance around your home, one of our upgraded routers may be worth considering.
