One Touch Switching Explained

What is One Touch Switching and what does this mean for me?

Switching providers just got a whole lot easier, thanks to Ofcom’s new regulation, One Touch Switching (OTS). No more headaches or juggling between companies! This process is designed to make switching hassle-free, with your new provider doing all the heavy lifting.

In the past, switching networks (like moving from Virgin to BT or Sky) meant contacting multiple providers. Not anymore! With OTS, you just deal with your new provider—they'll handle the rest. No need to talk to your current provider!

How Does One Touch Switching Work?

Here’s how it goes down:

  1. You place an order with your new provider over the phone or online.
  2. Your details are sent to a centralised hub called TOTSCo (The One Touch Switching Company) to make sure everything checks out.
  3. Your current provider will then send you a letter (likely by email) that explains what happens if you leave them — like your contract end date, any early exit fees, and what to do with your old equipment.
  4. If everything looks good, you give the green light to your new provider!
  5. Your switch date is set, and everyone’s in the loop.
  6. On switch day, your services move to your new provider, and your old one cancels your account within one working day. If you've paid for anything beyond your switch date, you'll get a credit within 30 days (as long as you’re out of contract).

Delayed Start? Don’t Worry, We've Got You Covered!

If your service start date is delayed, you could be entitled to compensation. Here’s how:

Compensation for Delays

If your switch doesn’t happen by the date given in your contract information document, you’ll get compensation for each day it’s late. For example, if your package is £30/month, that’s £1 for every day it’s delayed. This is paid automatically within 30 days of your switch.

Missed or Cancelled Appointments

If our supplier misses or cancels your appointment (without at least 24 hours' notice), you’ll get £15 for each missed appointment, credited to your account within 30 days.

Delays on Porting Your Number

Your current provider has 30 days to port your number. While delays here don’t come with compensation, we’ll keep things moving as fast as possible.
