Ready to move your Home Unity router to a different room? No worries! Follow these steps, and you’ll be good to go in no time.
This article is for customers on Full Fibre only (where you connect your router to a modem, rather than a telephone socket)
Step 1: Find Extension Ports for Your Router🔍
First things first, go to where your router is currently located. Usually, there are sockets on the wall nearby for phones and internet services.
With the yellow ethernet cable that came with your router, check the sockets near the router to see if you have one that fits.
Slide up the cover on the socket to check which way the cable should go. Make sure the plastic clip on the cable is facing where the socket has the groove going out.
Be gentle to avoid getting it stuck.
In this example, the plastic clip would be facing down as the groove is facing down
If the ethernet cable fits into a socket, hooray! Move on to Step 2. If not, it looks like the router will have to stay put.
Step 2: Disconnect and Reconnect the Router 🔄
Turn off your Home Unity router and disconnect the red ethernet cable from the WAN port on the back. Now, plug this cable into the ethernet socket in the wall. Once that’s done, unplug the router, ready to take it to your new spot.
Step 3: Find a New Socket 📍
Time to scope out the new location! Look for ethernet sockets in your desired spot—maybe the living room, bedroom, or wherever you want better Wi-Fi. These sockets should match the adapter you just connected the router to.
Step 4: Connect the Router in the New Location 🔌
Now, using the yellow ethernet cable, plug one end into the new socket (with the clip facing where the groove is) and the other end into the WAN port on the back of your router.
Connect your router to the power socket and wait around 5 minutes for the lights to turn green. And just like that, you’re all set!
Troubleshooting: What If the Router Doesn’t Work in the New Socket? ❓
Sometimes, things don’t go as planned. If the router doesn’t come online, it might be because the sockets are just for show or the internal cables are faulty. Make sure the cables are firmly plugged in at both the new socket and the one near your router (you should hear a satisfying click). If that doesn’t work, try another socket in your home.
If none of the sockets work, no worries! Just move the router back to its original spot. Remove the yellow cable from the wall, reconnect the red cable to the WAN port on the back of your router, and you should be back online.
