How do I set up a Wi-Fi booster in my home?
Setting up a Wi-Fi booster helps extend your Wi-Fi into rooms with weak signal and usually takes just a few minutes. A Wi-Fi booster helps carry your existing Wi-Fi signal further around your home. It works best when it is placed correctly and set up near your router first.
Before you start
Make sure:
-
Your internet is working
-
Your router is switched on
-
You know your Wi-Fi name and password
💡 Tip: Set up the booster in the same room as your router first.
Step 1: Plug in the Wi-Fi booster
-
Plug the booster into a wall socket near your router
-
Turn it on
-
Wait for the power light to appear
📝 Note: Do not plug the booster into an extension lead during setup.
Step 2: Connect the booster to your Wi-Fi
Most boosters connect in one of two ways.
Option 1: Using WPS
-
Press the WPS button on your router for around 5 seconds, until the Wi-Fi lights change
-
Then, press the WPS button on the booster for around 5 seconds (check the manufacturer's instructions on this)
-
Wait until the connection light turns solid (lights may vary, so check the manufacturer's instructions on this)
Option 2: Using an app or web page
-
Connect your phone to the booster Wi-Fi
-
Follow the on-screen setup steps
-
Select your home Wi-Fi and enter the password
⚠️ Caution: Do not turn off the router or booster during setup.
Step 3: Move the booster to the best location
Once connected:
-
Unplug the booster
-
Move it halfway between the router and the weak signal area
-
Plug it directly into a wall socket
💡 Tip: The booster should still show a strong signal light.
Check the booster is working
After setup:
-
Connect your device to the booster Wi-Fi

-
Move the booster slightly if needed
📝 Note: Small changes in position can improve performance.
